What-is-it Question LXIV.

It was commonly used in India. What purpose did it serve? Where was it most likely to be found when it was serving its purpose?

Ok, I'll make it easier. It has nothing to do with decoration, rather something to do with something that was eaten, but only in India and in some countries near it.

Can you make it even easier, like fruit or vegetable? I just cant imagine what it could be used for.

have you heard of paan or betel leaf? u put lots of spices on it and fold it into a triangular shape called 'giloree'. These pins prevented the folded triangles from unfolding. They were placed in a casket called 'Khaasdaan' for serving.

Paan is widely consumed in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and nearby Asian countries as a breath freshener.

For your reference, I'm linking a picture here from the internet which shows the paan in its open and folded forms.

aargh! of course! but one does not usually see these in a North American restaurant. The mixture is most often presented in an open bowl, with a tiny little spoon.
