Post by minca99 »

I have also taken a picture of an unknown silver piece, would you maybe happen to know the creator?
Thank you.

Most likely it is the city of Odessa. The mark of the master "Н.САНТ" N.Santamaria. The second part of the 1840s.
Can you show the brand on the second product?

ВГ is the assayer's initials. He is Vladimir Galkin, he assayed in Odessa 1844-1848. However, Odessa's town mark was earlier a burning cross but later (1843-1848) an anchor headed with a double headed eagle. Yes, could be Odessa! The maker's mark could be an abbreviation of Николай сантамария (Nikolay Santamaria (P#3171)) known to have worked in Odessa 1848. It could be a a match...?

Thanks! I have to understand why you didn't immediately show this photo, which is more informative.)))

The coat of arms of Odessa was an anchor under an eagle.
The cross and three crowns were the coat of arms of the Kherson province. It began to be used on silver in the late 1880s.
Santamaria worked with pleasure in the 1830s, and in the 1840s, and even a little in the 1850s.

Santamaria worked all the 1830s, 1840s, 1850s and even 1860.

Thanks! I had no information for 1860. Information for 1860 was probably submitted in 1859.
