Unidentified Spoon

Post by lulutieungu »

I acquired this spoon recently. I thought the mark was Hanau. However, when I checked again, it is not correct. I have searched over the internet and got no luck so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

the spoon is older than the inscription. It was made in Tønder / Tondern in south Denmark by Jacob Reimer (born about 1620, death after 1705).

Kind regards,
Ringo

There are are at least 21 known town marks (a ship) of Tønder. The mark on the spoon is from the 17th century. The mark shown by AG20212 is from the 19th century, therefore they differ. Jacob Reimer was born around 1620 and got citizenship (borgerskab) in Tønder 8.4.1665. This corresponds well with the town mark on the spoon. When he died is not exactly known (after 1706?). He mainly made church silver and tableware
