I believe this 4-3/8" demitasse spoon is French because of the hallmarks being in the bowl, but I'm not sure. I have attached photos of the two marks -- one with letters ("G.Z.") and one that looks like a sword perhaps.
Hi Dave,
For Dutch hallmarks and your sword mark see; viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32028
Maker's mark G.Z. for; Johannes Albertus Adolf Gerritsen, this particular mark registered in the cities of Amsterdam and Zeist 1906/?1908.
For information about Gerritsen see; The famous family Gerritsen, silversmiths and factory founders history
Thank you so much or the information! So based upon what I read, would the fineness would be at least .833? Do you think the bright cut pattern suggests mid to late 19th century?
Correct minimum fineness 833 or higher.
This particular maker's mark of J.A.A. Gerritsen was only used as of 1906 till around 1908. We can assume the spoon to be made around this time period.
