Re: Rare makers marks
There is an advertisement in the Raleigh Minerva (Raleigh, North Carolina) newspaper dated 19 October 1802 page 3 for a William Hilliard Jeweler & Silver Smith. The date within the advertisement is 16 September. Just a possibility, however remote.wev wrote: Hillard -- as yet unidentified
Re: Rare makers marks
Correct! "William Hilliard, Fayetteville, NC 1801-1810 and Jonesboro, NC 1814"

Re: Rare makers marks
I would have to see the whole spoon. I have seen this mark on spoons too late to be his. As Cutten notes, George W. Hilliard, possibly his son, may have used this mark based on an earlier version used by William at the end of his career.FoundInNC wrote:Correct!
