Hi there .
I have a London 1588 Apostle Spoon . I would appreciate any help with identifying the Apostle which I am finding difficult due to wear . The maker's mark is poorly struck and illegible .

Hi G-
Can you post a picture showing his right arm from the side? the picture of his back looks like he is carrying a carpenters square, which would be St. Jude.

Apostle Identification
Thanks for your thoughts guys .
My guess was either St John with the right hand raised in benediction and the emblem in the left missing or - less likely - The Saviour again with the right hand raised in benediction and the orb and cross in the left missing.
A few more photos as requested by Byron :

Hi Gordon-
Thank you for posting the additional photos, after seeing these, I am inclined to agree with Trev and say St. Matthew, or possibly St. Peter.
The rest of them are holding items that would show even with the wear due to there relative size. Anyway, here is a site that I would think would know "who's, Who" it is The "Catholic Encyclopedia"

Best wishes and let us know if you find out for sure- Byron

The saint's attributes may be found onsite under "apostle spoons" at http://www.925-1000.com/silverglossary.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
