What is this German Made Item?

HI all.

Can anyone assist , what is this very well made item? It has 2 compartments so is it as simple as one side salt and the other side pepper?

So you have a feel for it, it measures 80mm in length, has a weight of 93g

One lid has the full face and is the sun, the other is a crescent moon.
