As to this JL mark, Douglas Bennett wrote: With this mark there is some difficulty in establishing ownership as several manufacturers with these initials had work assayed at this period

John Laughlin Jnr. 1768-1813
John Lloyd Snr. 1768-1821
John Locker 1758-1825
