Need Help in Identifying Maker of Gold Pin & Ring Set

Post by pebbles »

Hi group,

I am a new member. Please bear with me. I have very large gold brooch with matching ring. The ring is marked 14k and the brooch tested as 14k (not marked 14K). The only mark on brooch is a number 2895. The stones are very large citrines.

Any clue who the maker might be? Any directions I can take to figure it out? Thanks in advance for your help. Photos are below.

Hi,

The style is that of around 1940.

This is possibly the work of Marcel Boucher, who operated a high-quality costume jewelry company but also produced gold work, some of it sold by Tiffany.

The numbers look like Boucher inventory numbers and if this is Boucher, it dates from 1949

Hi,
The retro styling is certainly in keeping with the late forties and the individual, unevenly stamped numbers are typical of Boucher design numbering. I knew he designed a bit for Cartier before starting his own company in 1937, but the Tiffany connection is new to me. Is their relationship documented anywhere?
Regards, Tom

ps. here's a link to a page of Boucher patent designs from this time period.

the two-tone gold is quite sophisticated European styling; stones are most likely citrine but could be something else-- anyone interested in jewelry should note that the picture is so clear, and the stone so well-cut, that you can tell it is a cut gemstone and not a molded or poured glass stone.

Hi Group,

Thank you so much for your responses and the links. The stone did test as Citrine. Just want to add that this is a huge brooch. It measures 3 inches wide by 3/4 inch high and weighs approx 68 grams. One more question, did Boucher have unsigned jewelry? except for the number, I cannot find any names on brooch.

Pebbles - there is a lot of unsigned Boucher about, both in fine jewelry and in high-quality costume. - As a matter of fact people often sell items as Boucher just because it has a number that appears to be by Boucher, but other companies such as Avon used a similar numbering system (there were two Avon companies, one of which worked out of Canada, as did Boucher, who had a factory in Belleville, Ontario)

I know this is outside the scope of the silver forum but it is interesting history

PS- I should have said three-tone gold -you have white prongs, and yellow and rose gold loops. Gorgeous examples of their time.
