Dutch Maker's Mark Looks like AK and below that 47

Post by Najib »

Hi. I am new to this forum but have found the reserch on this site invaluable in identifying hallmarks and maker's maks etc. Thanks to all who contribute.

I recently acquired 4 spoons with twisted handles and bright cut pattern on the ends. I identified the spoons as Dutch 1881, Lion Passant with number 2 (.833 purity), Minerva with letter M, the date letter q (for want of a more accurate word for the dutch letter) indicating it dates to 1881. Tha maker's mark looks like AK with the numbers 47 below the letters. Can anyone identify the maker's make and assay office (M) please.

I will try to post a picture below

Hi Najib,

Your date letter W for 1881. The regional assay office letter M for Schoonhoven.
The maker’s mark, if you believe AK above 47, perhaps # 919. I am looking at your ( not so clear) photo/ rubbed maker’s mark, but please judge for yourself

Hi Oel

Thanks a ton. It is definitely 919 and the date fits as well. I thought the letter might be q but I see now that it is in fact W. Thanks a lot for your help.

Regards.

Hello my Dutch section friends, I think this set of marks with AK over star47 in a square cartouche looks like it should belong here somewhere.

Thought it was "921" in Oel's mini list. Adrianus Kuijlenburg Pz (wed) [widow] of Shoonhoven 1882-1893. At first I thought the date letter as "h" for 1867 when the mark ought to have been the "919" version. Is the date letter however the "y" for 1882 and be the Widow?

Hi Fishless, you are spot on. The mark AK above *47 for the widow Kuijlenburg-Borst.
Year letter Y' ( Germanic Alphabet) for 1883.

Best wishes,

Peter.
