What-is-it question LXXV.

This silverplated piece was made by Manning, Bowman & Company, Meriden, Connecticut (c.1880).
It's 7.5 inches (19.05 cm.) tall.
What was it used for?

It looks like something for oil, but in silverplate?

I know (or had a better idea) for flowers - to spray water.

Hello Hose_dk.

This was not originally meant to hold water to water plants.
However, probably would work well for that purpose.

Difficult to respond to your first guess, oil.
In a way you are close, but this is not what you were thinking of.
The English word oil has different meanings / uses.

Hello Pat,

Isn't that a pump by the handle? Is it a fancy oil filler, perhaps?

Best wishes

Hello Mikael.

Yes, that is a pressure pump in front of the handle.
It is sort of an "oil filler".
What did it fill?

Hi Pat,

Could it be a container for paraffin (kerosene) for topping up oil lamps?

Hello Trev.

Yes, it was used to fill hanging oil lamps.
