Baptize spoon from Germany?

Post by Vantlicht »

Wenn I bought this spoon they said that it was used in a church to baptize children. Anybody who can confirm this?
Furthermore it would be nice if somebody could help me out with the marks. German or Austrian?

Hello, 813 is quite unusual for German fineness, what about Finland/Suomi ? Regards, Bahner

I don't think it's Finnish. There would have to be full set of hallmarks: crown, town, maker, and year. The same applies for Sweden. Sometimes town and date could be omitted in small items but even then crown and maker would be mandatory.

It is hardly Finnish like Sasropakis also anticipates. Would you please clean/polish the spoon and maybe you will find additional marks on it. Please especially clean the round shielded mark and maybe it will tell more. Moreover, baptizing spoons are more seldom used in Finland. The short stem makes me think it might be a caddy spoon, but????
