Norwegian maker Bjornbak - any info

Post by vicmollo »

I've got as far as figuring out the flatware is Norwegian, from N.M. mark (at least I think it is). Can't seem to find any info on the maker, i.e. company or silversmith? Or date - heavy pieces seem to be good quality. Thanks for any help

Hi
The silverware is norwegian. The pattern is called "Opphøyet rose". It is made by Th. Marthinsens Sølvvarefabrikk i Tønsberg, Norway.
The producers mark is ) - after 830S. NM is a mark they used in Norway and means - Norsk Mønster (norwegian pattern). The retailer is Lars Bjørnbak in Horten and at that time the retailer used to have theres mark too.

Tosten - do you have the time period that Marthinsen used that mark?

Tosten, thanks for the id!

Cheryl, any chance you could add a clear detailed image to be used on the Norwegian Makers page?

Thanks, Tom

Tom, had to hunt up the pieces - they are both Dragestil designs, one a small engraved teaspoon with an incredibly slender stem, the other a salt spoon I had noted as most likely Marthinsen since it appeared to be their 1912 Drage pattern (believe my Mom might have a Dragestil napkin ring with that mark also - will check). Truthfully, doubt that I'd be able to get a better pic than the one in this post, perhaps vicmollo would let you use his image, if not I'll give it a shot (been meaning to send some other Scandinavian marks to you anyway).
