Edinburgh Silver - JWH & J.H with a small 's'

Post by rpmcmurphy »

I have a pair of Edinburgh silver salts and am just looking to confirm the year and maker and whether or not this actually a pair

The first is marked J.H with a small 's' above the dot. The year is V and I figure this to be James Home 1827. However the second is marked JWH, the year is unclear but appears possibly to be an M - JW Howden 1818??

On first appearance the two look like a matching pair, however the one marked J.H (with the small s) is slightly heavier . The pattern around the rim is the same however the pattern on the J.H protrudes slightly more than the JWH and is doesn't appear as smooth and precise. I am not sure if these two makers are linked.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
