Silver clasp from the 18th century

Post by Vantlicht »

I found this small piece from a silver clasp with my metaldetector. It is really well marked with the citymark of Amsterdam? The letters NAP and another mark? I cannot match them with a silversmith, maybe you can? Thanks in advance!

Probably not Dutch, have you tested it to see if it is silver? The first mark could be a crescent moon.

::::: We were just discussing the Kingdom Of Naples and this might be a very early mark from Naples (circa 1300-1690) because the earliest marks seem to only have NAPL or NAP (without a crown over the NAP or a year designation under the NAP) :::::

:::::::::: Naples had a silver Guild' that was was founded under Charles II of Anjou (1254–1309) so from circa 1300 until 1690 the mark can be seen as the abbreviation "NAP" or "NAPL" ::::::::::
