P paddle Q

Post by silverfan »

These 2 dessert forks of my 12 pieces of this filet contours pattern (similar to San Marco) are marked like the others with P paddle Q for one of the Queillé silversmiths. Who of the many silversmiths of the Queillé family is it? Is the bigorne of any help? At first I thought one paddle was upside down (which is attributed to Emile Pierre Queillé) but after narrow investgation of all pieces I doubt.

Hello,
It would be Pierre Pierre Queillé, who took over the family company in 1923 until it was sold to Saglier Frères in 1947 (then to Ravinet D'Enfert in n1973 and the Ercuis in 1989.

Pierre Pierre Queillé !? Jamais entendu. The last Queillé was Emile Pierre Q. 1864-1955.
I suppose Eugène Francois Q. actif 1847-1880 or Elvire Pierre Francois Q. actif 1874-1895 who used the same punch.
Let's wait for JayT who has perhaps an other solution.

Yes, sorry, the Pierre got doubled and I hit submit instead of Preview!
The answer should read Pierre Queillé, otherwise the rest of the answer stands. There are numerous errors in the book Le Dictionnaire des Joailliers, Bijoutiers et Orfèvres, Remi Verlet, 2022, but I think this entry is correct.
