Musée de Cluny - Musée National du Moyen Âge
28 rue Du Sommerard
75005 Paris
MUSÉE DE CLUNY
Reopened on 12 May 2022, the Musée de Cluny is the only national museum in France dedicated to the Middle Ages. The public can now discover the Middle Ages for a new generation, thanks to improved accessibility, renewal of the visit itinerary and museum design, and redesign of the information tools targeted at a diverse public.
At 28 rue Du Sommerard, in the heart of the Latin Quarter, the museum takes you on a journey back in time, from the 1st to the 21st century, in a unique setting. The 15th century private townhouse of the Abbots of Cluny, attached to the Gallo-Roman thermal baths, has now been joined by a contemporary extension, inaugurated in 2018 and designed by the architect Bernard Desmoulin.
This heritage site houses prestigious collections illustrating the extraordinary diversity of medieval artistic production. The new museum itinerary follows a chronological thread, designed to make the development of forms, ground-breaking moments, innovations and aesthetic differences between Northern and Southern Europe easy to understand. Through a multitude of approaches and media, the cultural programme provides information to a wide-ranging public.
The Musée de Cluny holds some of the Visigothic crowns discovered at Guarrazer, near Toledo in the 19th century (between 1858 and 1860). As votive objects, the crowns most likely decorated the altars of one or more churches in Toledo, as a symbol of the submission of the Visigoth kings to the Roman Catholic church and its leaders. In actual fact, these exceptional pieces of jewelry are a testimony to the precious craftsmanship of artists in the courts of the “barbarian” princes of the people who mass-migrated in the 4th—7th centuries.
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 9.30 am to 6.15 pm - Closed Mondays and 1st January, 1st May, 25th December.
Admission: €12

Re: Musée de Cluny - Musée National du Moyen Âge - Paris
Hello
The current temporary exhibit at the Cluny Museum is the Treasure of Oignies, a breathtaking display of 30 works of 13th C ecclesiastical silver from Belgium which have never been displayed outside that country. The exhibit is well-worth a visit. There is a catalogue.
