Italian sugar bowl?

Post by jaume »

Hello to everybody,

This is a cup with a lid. Material: silver.

I have been looking for similar objects in the image search engine and I see similar ones in Italian sugar bowls or in cups that were given to ladies when they had a child.
There are only two silver hallmarks and I am not able to identify them.

I will greatly value your opinion.

Thanks and Regards.

Jaume

::::: Have you had this tested for silver content? :::::: Is this actually silver-plated or just made of a base-metal? ::::::

Hi Aguest,

It's solid silver. The scratch test is made. Have a look at the image, please.

Thank you.

:::: Does that hallmark show a fish? :::::: Possibly the city hallmark for Saafeld (Thuringia) in Germany? :::::::
::::: I haven't checked the Italian City States, but the presence of a zig-zag assay mark leads me to search for somewhere in Germany first. ::::::

Thanks again.

Yes you're right. The hallmark shows one or more fish. I'll try to check into German hallmarks. It could be a clue, as you say.

I had forgotten to mention the dimensions of the glass: height 12 cm's and diameter 10 cm's.

I am attaching a monogram that appeared when cleaning it, which may be a property mark.

Regards.
