Hello. This box seem to be old. Is anyone familiar with this marks? To me it looks like NY and mermaid with star. Thank you in advance.

The N with an inverted Y, the y is actually a castle tower. The town hallmark for the city of Middelburg in the province of Zeeland, combined with the year letter N for 1783. This mermaid is the master mark of Gijsbregt Roelofsen. The master marks he used: mermaid with star and GR under a mermaid with star. He started in 1778 and stopped in 1800. Gijsbrecht Roelofsen was a manufacturer of all kinds of boxes.

Your welcome, forgot to mention the silver fineness. So called kleine keur for Middelburg being 10 penningen 16 grein, or 888/000.
