Metal purity mark۸۴ 84 in Persian for 875/1000 parts silver.
Townmark and Maker's mark- silversmith's name in Farsi.

In your opinion, is the era more late 19th or early 20th century?
Do you think there is a way to trace the silversmith or at least the city? Maybe I can ask the National Museum of Scotland whose interesting link you sent me?

It looks like a cigarette box to me, maybe made in the fifties-early sixties in the city Kerman Persian كرمان. However I stand to be corrected.

Hello

The city name is Isfahan but I can't make out the smith's mark.

The Kronfol collection was split between the National Museum of Scotland and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montreal,

I have just realized that the Musée des Beaux-Arts has posted a number of images with the names of some of the silversmiths although - frustratingly - there are no images of the stamps.

Hello Peter

I agree that the stamp does not bear a close resemblance to the crisp text which you have provided

The stamp on the article is more like صفها - missing the initial (on the right) letter ا which may have been worn off and with the final letter (on the left) ن positioned above the end of the word and just to the right of the ascending line.

There are a lot of liberties taken with the script and with wear sometimes only some letters are clear.

Perhaps I am mistaken in this instance but this is my assessment

Update: The National Museum of Scotland has responded, firstly, after thanking him privately, I thank him publicly for taking the time to address my request.
It basically confirmed what you had already said :-)
Here is the text of the response and thank you all for your time.

In the image Screenshot_20240617_175649_Gallery the top hallmark gives the place - Isfahan. Below on the right, this seems to be the maker's mark. However, I don't know this name and have not come across it yet to guess it from what is legible. The mark on the left is 84 as you have already identified.
