question

Post by huszas76 »

Hello, colleagues!
Does anyone have information about Paul Magnus Tenner in St. Petersburg?
Image
I found a knife with a hallmark from Arad, which has a Tenner maker mark very similar to the mark given in the Postnikova-Loseva book.

I am assuming the identity of the maker, but I would be happy if someone could confirm that he really left St. Petersburg.
Thank you for your help!
Best regards!

Hello Krisztián!
Paul Magnus Tenner did not leave St. Petersburg and died there in 1819.
This information from Бар. А. Е. Фелькерзам: Алфавитный указатель С. – Петербургских золотых и серебряных дел мастеров, ювелиров, граверов и проч. (1714-1814).

Dear Alex!
First of all, thanks for the information!
It's interesting because what you show here maker mark is even more similar to what I showed than what is in the PL book.
Could it be that his widow or his son carried on the workshop, using the maker's mark, and they left Russia?
I feel this is more likely than a completely different silversmith with the same name and makers mark appearing out of nowhere in Arad.
Anyway, it is interesting.
Best regards!

Hi huszas76,

in addition to P. M. Tenner - for your archiv.
This is not my ansver to your question!

This is the mark of Paul Magnus Tenner in combination with the city-mark of St. Petersburg.
The assay master is Alexandr Ilych Yaschinkov (1795-1826).

Tenner (*1781 region Estland - †1819 St. Petersburg) worked for the tsar' s court.
After Tenner's death, his widow continued the work until 1924.
