I have an Art Deco shagreen cigarette case. It might be silver gilt - the only mark is the X shown. Is it possible that it is made of gold? Thanks

But if it is gold you should expect a few more marks to indicate the gold fineness like 14K or an extra gold hallmark. I should have it tested to make sure the cigarette case is made out of a precious metal.
