Hamburg / Altona Maker's Mark and Date

Post by Minosina »

Hi. I have plenty of references on British and French silver but I know little of German / Danish, so some help would be great.

This small spoon appears to have Altona or Hamburg marks. The silversmith's mark is EL and there is also another cartouche containing either an "E" or an "F". The town's gate has a letter too but it's almost gone - it's perhaps a "P".

Anyone recognise the maker or date? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended. Do not use Photobucket or Dropbox.

Thanks - I've discovered the facility I've been using in Google has now been deactivated. Typical............I should have checked via preview - apols.

Many thanks. This isn't part of my collection as such; it was just something I acquired out of curiosity about the marks. Thank you again.
