I have a small silver basket, with the marks shown in the photos. I believe it may be made in Birmingham in 1904, but I have not been able to trace the maker: the mark appears to have been struck twice.
Can anyone help with this item, please?

Re: Maker WDD Birmingham
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I agree with you that the sponsor's mark has been struck twice, or probably three times. It is WD - William Devenport (viewtopic.php?f=38&t=14729&p=125040#p125040).
That x is the date letter for the assay year 1897/98.

Re: Maker WDD Birmingham
Thanks Phil. It appears then that the strike was made using individual letter punches, rather than a single punch with the whole mark on it.
I did get the date mark wrong, I think it is similar to a mark for Edinburgh for 1904.
