Not sure what forum this spoon belongs or whether there’s much to be revealed about it without any marks, but it is certainly open to discussion. Thank you.

::::: I stumbled across some sort of similar reproduction of an English form and I cannot remember who made it, was it a Stieff Williamsburg pattern? :::::: I think you might have a similar spoon. ::::: It might be American 20th century sterling silver but not marked as such, similar to the example pictured below, I finally figured out that is was from an American company, but now I cannot remember which one as it was a few years ago. :::::::

Thank you for the comments. I am aware of the Williamsburg reproductions, but there’s not enough signs of markings to fit that for me. I would like it better if the bowl was more oblong, but because it’s not, I’m still completely puzzled.

Hi Silverly,

The pattern is what is known as 'Scottish Fiddle Pattern'. The repair is just where you expect the maker's mark to be struck, thus making it a weak point.

The likelihood is your spoon is mid 18th century and Scottish in origin.

::::: I was thinking about this spoon & do the details not seem "cast" or "die cast" like other mid-18th century rococo silver spoons from England? So the fact that it is "cast" would rule out any later reproductions because they are all stamped and do not use the older "cast" technique :::::::

:::::: Under magnification there should be tiny casting artifacts from the casting process, so that adds evidence for the mid-18th century time period :

I am not able to find anything on this spoon that suggest whether or not it is cast. For me it's just too worn to tell.
