Maker of 1764 Spoon

Post by juantotree »

Hi

I was looking at some options for the maker of this 1764 tablespoon, marked T*T. The mark is not shown in Grimwade, on Phil's site he has noted it seen on a spoon also dated 1764.

So is this a mark for a so far unidentified maker, or perhaps more likely an unrecorded mark of a known maker? Thomas Tookey sprang to mind but this would appear to be to early for him, closer to the date but still slightly to early is Thomas Taylor I. The only other contender I could think of was Thomas Townraw, he was certainly around at this time but was probably already working at Goldsmiths Hall, if so could he also still be on the makers register?

Any thoughts or observations from other members would be most welcome.

Unfortunately I have no further information on a possible candidate for maker but I have acquired another spoon with the previous date letter (1763/4) as shown in the images below.
