The color looks a bit pewter to me, but it definitely resembles the 17th century Hamburg marks. I appreciate any help.

Also, why move it out of the german section? Is there some doubt about which country it came from?

You were moved to the German single image section. For silver (hall)marks Hamburg see;

Rosenberg, Marc: Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen (Band 2) Hamburg page 131

Indeed it could be a (Hamburg?) pewter mark.

Strange how none of these examples include the maker's or assayer's initials inside the shield like mine has.

I almost detect an ottoman sultan's signature below the castle.

I know other German cities also used castles for hallmarking, but I don't know which.

Thanks

I'll test it and let you know if it's silver or pewter.

A book by Markhams mentions the 17th Cent Hamburg smiths included 6-pointed stars on their work. This one is 5-pointed. So my best guess now is Hamburg pewter or Hanau pseudo marks.

It looks like pewter to me too, most likely.
There are many ways to distinguish silver from pewter.
Try one.

I have an old oil lamp with the same marking. I reached out to The Pewter Society (pewtersociety.org) and got the following response:

"The touch mark is reminiscent of the Coat of Arms of Jönköping which is a city on Lake Vattern, Sweden. The maker TS is not listed for that location in my Swedish reference book for antique pewter or anywhere else in Sweden so it may be that it is too late to be classed as antique or just unrecorded."

This makes sense, as my father (who I inherited the lamp from) was born and raised in Jönköping.
