Town mark silver of Ath. Silversmiths only established their own guild in 1662. Its mark is taken from the city's coat of arms. For more information see;
viewtopic.php?p=220524#p220524
The maker's mark crowned B or perhaps crowned R, unknown.

Peter.

I received the following message from Giacomo Visini, Library employee City of Antwerp, Talent Development and Leisure Experience, Museums and Heritage | DIVA museum:

That could well be the master mark of François Joseph Bourgaux. Active in Ath from 1762 to 1786 (?).
Note, in the biography in Orfèvrerie civile Athoise, it states that he was active until 1777 (p. 37), but on p. 47 there is a work attributed to him from 1784.

DIVA Museum Antwerp has two objects in its possession attributed to Bourgaux, see the exhibition catalogue Pittig zilver. Something strange is going on here too. In his biography on p. 21 it states that there are works by him known from 1762 to 1784, but on the next page there is another work attributed to him from 1786.

In summary; this crowned B is attributed to silversmith, François Joseph, Bourgaux, workplace in the city of Ath. He is born in 1732 as son of Nicolas Joseph Bourgaux. In 1754 he married Marie Jacqueline Coubeau, he died in 1795
