Who made 1749 Edinburgh Quaich?

Post by kerangoumar »

The maker's mark is not contained in a cartouche. It has serif "J C", firmly stamped, and am wondering whether anyone has any images of Edinburgh makers of the time - I am thinking of these potential culprits:

1710 James Clarke possibly a bit too late for him

these perhaps most likely:

1720 John Cumming
1734 James Campbell

somewhat early for:
1751 John Clark
1754 James Craig

Are there any other marks?

Nigel - am not at home at the moment so I can't look but it has the relevant marks for Edinburgh 1749 and then the "J C" and no more. It is a lovely work; if my camera were in order you would be looking at a picture - well, that's modern technology for you. It is aesthetically very pleasing. Holly
