Makers Mark Identification

Post by Jcmama »

ImageImage

Hi There World, The pictures attached are not very good to use for identification, but I can see them well. All I need to know is who made the piece. It was made in Vienna in 1857 of 13 Loth according to the hallmark on the piece. The initials in the makers mark are AST in the oval. Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks, Jim M

Hello, no such maker AST in an oval documented in Vienna around the time. Are You sure about the letters ? A clearer pic might help. Best wishes, Bahner

I know the pictures are not very good. I will post newer pictures in the next couple of days. I could be wrong with the initials. Check back to this post in a few days, I should have the new pictures by then. Thanks for your input.\

These picture are the best I can make. The makers mark does stand out a lot better than the last picturtes. To me, it contains the letter a-?-t in an oval. Please advise if we can find the maker,or are the marks to worn?

Thanks, in advance.

Hello, checked another source and came up with a close hit: Anton Stadler, active in Vienna 1824 - 1858. That would fit. He used AST in an oval. But in his mark there is a dot after the ST. But that might just be no longer recognizable. Best wishes, Bahner
