unknown mark on small platter

Post by NancyJ »

I found a small silver tray at an estate sale. The makers mark on the back reads G. B. & D or T. Cannot tell for sure, does anyone recognize pattern or mark?

Hello.
Not 100% sure, but I think that mark was used by George Butler & Company, Sheffield, England.
They started electroplating c.1872. In business at least into the 1970's.

Here's an earlier mark of George Butler & Company.

Hello Nancy,
Just a little to add here. George Butler Ltd was bought by Arthur Price & Co sometime around 1994. They manufacture a range of cutlery under the George Butler name.

Paul.
