Cohr teapot set, no assayer mark, no date, why?

Post by muraille »

As I hope you can see, this teapot has the 3 tower mark but it has no date. The date wasn't erased either. Why is it missing, is it common?
It is, per the inscription, a 1955 or earlier item. Furthermore, there is no assayer's mark and I wonder why. I thought they continued to the 1970's. Thank you for your comments.

I believe the 3 towers mark to be that of Copenhagen and "Cohr" to stand
for C.M. Cohr, the well known silversmith of Denmark in the XXth C.

Hi Muraille,
It appears to me that the date numbers are there where they ought to be, right below the towers, superimposed atop the wavy "water" lines, not clear what numerals they are, but there nonetheless.
Judging by a large number of examples seen, before the assay & national marks were completely discontinued in 1977, there was a long transitional period where many pieces seemed to lack one or the other of them.

Thank you both very much. I'm relieved to know the assayer's mark is not a must.
