found this at an estate sale, they said it was probably an old Irish piece. the only marks are the MM stamped twice on the bottom. is this possible? hope the pictures are good enough! thanks for any help - agc

I just went through some old reference books as I knew I had seen that engraving before, it is the device of Fitzgerald, Duke of Leinster. It was noted on a writing set box made by James Fray and assayed in Dublin in 1817.
So it looks like the attribution of provincial Irish could well be correct.
