Nancy

Maker is a mystery to me,what l can tell you though it was owned by a Baron (Coronet with four balls)

l think l am correct in saying that the item can be dated post 1797, because of the double duty mark and l think the lion is an Exeter one.

l would be interested to here other views.

Regards

Nigel

I would agree with Nigel that the Lion Passant is probably a provincial mark and very likely to be Exeter, especially as that tri-cuspid George looks very much like other examples I seen used in Exeter after 1797.

Oliver Lang of Plymouth Dock , active around 1799 to 1828 according Jackson, is a possibility for the maker. Well, the initials fit and "O" is not common as a first name !

Thank you very much for your help in identifying the maker of this skewer. This piece also has a crest which, according to Fairbairn's, belongs to Baron Hindlip-Allsopp of Hindlip Hall Worcestershire and Alsop-en-le-Dale Derbyshire.

You are all a wonderful resource and I very much appreciate your time and expertise.
