18th Century German? Trefid Spoon Marks Help

Post by BWK »

Hello,

I have here what I believe to be a German or maybe Swedish Trefid Spoon. Spoon measures 8.25 inches long. Dot pricked with name Johan Friedrich Hamke 1736 on the back side. Engraved floral (thistle maybe) with bird on other side. Bowl is 3 inch x 1.75 inches wide. It is more like some sort of serving spoon than table spoon. The spoon was forged/hammered in on piece, no rattail, drop or v-groove, nothing of a joint between the stem and bowl.

Spoon is double marked at lower part of steam near bowl with what I think is first an "I" or "J" then I am not sure as it continues from the "I" into loop.

Could anyone help answer the following:
What country is this from?
Maker?
Age (assuming older than inscribed 1736)?
Is it a funeral spoon or what?

Thank you so much!

Danish is more likely than Swedish.
Marks are corresponding to tradition. Try to post better picture of engraving.
And better picture of mark - if possible.

The letter could be i or j or F or T
might be H or possibly K
Aretistic N

I have searched but I have not found anything among danish makers. The 2 identical marks are typical, but they might be found elsewhere.
The name Johan Friedrich Hamke - Hamke is a german name.

Age - dont think that it is older than engraving - identification of maker can state age, but I dont think it is older.
Funeralspoon - no then it should say "in memorial of..." or similar in language in country of origin.
It is a spoon given to Johan Friedrich Hamke or he had his name set in.

Thanks so much for the information. I managed to get a better picture of one of the maker's marks (there are two but exactly the same) and the prick dot signature.
