Silver skewer???? - German, from Kaiser's banquet

This is a silver object from Germany made after 1886. What is it? It is 5 1/2 inches (14 cm.) long and has a crescent, crown, 800, and a D within a diamond. It can be seen more clearly if you click on the thumbnail picture to make it bigger. The front near the top has a crown with a decoration under it.
My grandfather was one of the Kaiser's guards and family story has it that he obtained it at one of Kaiser Wilhelm II's banquets around 1905. I inherited it.
I would love to find out what it was used for. A small skewer, a nut pick, does anyone know? (I did not see the maker's mark in the German silver marks webpage.)

The maker is E. Deppe, Berlin. No further information available at the moment. Regards silverfan

this is a skewer, which can be used, I think, also to hold together Swiss rolls (meat, cabbage etc.)
