Greetings everyone. I recently bought this teapot that looked georgian to me, but it only has two stamp marks and I have researched them till I've turned green. Would appreciate some help if they are familar.
Hello and congrats, attractive piece. Usually I am not the envious guy, but in this case… The mark on the left is the city mark of Hamburg, Germany, “A” is for warden J.N.W. Schäffer, who served in this function 1828-1851. Maker is Heinrich Anthon Schauenburg, active in Hamburg 1816 till at least 1857. So this can be dated 1828-1851. Please note that at this time silversmiths no longer executed the whole piece, but had started using pre-fabricated parts by companies like Wilkens and Bruckmann. I believe that at least the snout of this kettle (and probably other parts, too) is/are not by Schauenburg, but by Bruckmann. Best wishes, Bahner
Bahner - Thank you for the quick response and great information. I did not realize that pieces were being assembled like that so early on...great learning experience. Again, much thanks. Alex
