Sterling Cutlery mark and maker identification help

Post by Mel »

I have spent some time trying to find the makers details and pattern name for the attached fish knife (of which I have a set). The set is over 40 years old. I have attempted to draw the marks to the best of my ability. Would anybody be able to assist from the photo attached. The pattern is almost the same as St Marks (San Marco) by Buccellati but I do not think it is. Any assistance would be appreciated - Mel

The mark on the left is a mark used 1938-1985 in Porto, Portugal for small items of first standard (.916) silver, though the mark on the right suggests that it is the slightly higher sterling standard. The center mark is the maker - Ferreira Marques & Irmão - who registered this particular mark in 1934 (though the company was founded in the 19th century). I don't know the pattern, but you might try contacting the company, which still exists in Porto.

Hope this helps!
