Shell Ladle "E 750" Help with origin, date

Post by laudare »

Does anyone have an idea what country this came from and how old it might be? The only marks I have been able to find on it are "E" and "750"

about 200 years old
in Germany - 750 or 12 Loth are usual for silver standard
it’s very nice :-)

Hello, possibly the Erfurt city mark of the late 19th century. Numerical standard for silver fineness was introduced in Germany in the late 1860ies (around 1868, I seem to rememeber), so this ca be dated ca. 1868 - ca. 1888, which goes nicely with the Victorian style of the piece. Best wishes, Bahner
