Does anyone have a guess as to where this ink stand was made or the approximate age. I have searched everywhere for makers marks and I haven't found any. I believe that it is sterling but I have not had it tested.
An etched design would entail the use of an acid and resist, this piece was engraved. This piece looks Asian to me (reminds me of a daybed), perhaps made to appeal to Europeans, can't say that I've seen anything quite like it - but the artistic style of the engraving reminds me of some old Burmese drawings I've seen, the posts are also similar to the turned work in Burmese lacquerware.
