Nuremberg Beaker

I recently acquired a beaker with Nuremberg marks. Any idea as to when this silversmith worked. Markd JBF or JBE.

Well, it looks like the mark of Sigmund Bierfreund (ca. 1619/20-1702; Master 1654). But it goes without saying that 17th century Nuremburg beakers are exceedingly rare. We all know from this forum that 19th century Hanau makers were skilled at the art of reproduction, and the new definitive reference NÃ¼rnberger Goldschmiedekunst makes it clear just how widely Nuremburg pieces & marks were copied.

A photo of the beaker might help, but even so, you'd probably want eventually to take it to an expert for examination.

Thank you Blackstone. Of course, I have my doubts. Height of the beaker is 8 cm, weight 61 grams. (dimensions close to the originals sold at Christies and other auction houses).

I should add that it seems that the beaker was regilded later.
