This should shine - it is not gold un the outside - perhabs a ring is guilded but it is silver - and you cannot polish it to much. It can be guilded inside and then be carefull - it should last for many years. It should shine - ment to shine and to tell how rich the owner was. You only remove dirt and you cannot remove toi much dirt.
The black in the ornamentation does not disapear by polish it will remain. But I would also remove that because this is silver of a high standard. And for 200 years it has ment to shine - so get a cloth - an old diper used by your children and washed a million times is perfect.
But only polish by hand no mashinery - because that is killing good old items.
Congratulation with it. I envy you.
Is it gold inside - then hot water - diswasher fluid (not for mashine wash - that kills too) but for hand wash. Let it stay in the hot waster use a toothbrush (again NO mashine brusch) only handwork - and old worn out toothbrush is perfect. Old and worn out - I am serious both diper and toothbrush.

A brusch for rouge - and old one is also good. Dont know UK word - but for powder.
You place a rubber (gum elastic) around the hair - almost at the end of it. Then the fine soft hair get pressed together and become less elastic. The fine hair can get into every little ornament and clean it.
Puh that was difficult to try to explain - you proberly dont understand what I mean. Maby some one can assist.

Thank you Eva.
well thats good.
My idea was a guild (i think that is the name)
With guild I mean a cup - welcome to share a dring in a association af people. Could be carpenters, merchants, shoomakers etc.The old organisation of the various trades.
Then every piece hanging is set there when a person became member (i.e. when he got his citienship and became an independent with his own hosehould with people employed)
But yes it is for drinking of. Is it 6 cm high approx - it is for snaps (liquer) is it approx 15 cm it is for beer.

This type of beaker is called a Hanseatic beaker hanseaterbeger in Norwegian and its form is derived from beakers used in the hanseatic towns in northern Germany. The town Bergen was a member of the Hanseatic league.

The goldsmiths in the town provided the market of wealthy peasants with this traditional beaker until the mid 19th century. It was a status object and an investment, a sort of show-off piece to boast about at the parties. It is also called raslebeger or rattle beaker, because of the rattling sound it makes, when drinking.
