Punch Ladle w/gilt and ebony, Eastern European?

I have this punch ladle. It has an ebony handle and gilt-washed bowl.



The closest styles I could find are similiar to some made in Riga (Latvia) and Eastern Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

But I'm stumped on the mark.



Or just in case it's not a W....



There are no other markings on the item. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Your nice ladle was made by Niels Holst Wendelboe in Aarhus/Ã…rhus, Denmark, He was born 1762, master 8.9. 1788, and died 1811. The widow continues until 1816.

This is an excerpt from Chr. A. Bøje, Danske Guld og Sølvmærker før 1870. Politikens Forlag 1954 page 169



There is as you can see two masters with the same name Niels Holst Wendelboe. I am not sure whether the latter born 1784 used the same mark or not. Actually there are at least three but the third used his intitials "NHW" or "NW". Johannes Wendelboe was a goldsmith and a watchmaker so perhaps he is out of the question.

I hope that Hose can shed some light upon this!

all goldsmiths also worked in silver.

The problem is that nobydy knows which marks the silversmiths used. Bøje asumes. He look at year in practice and compare with existing pieces. By this he assumes. From edition 1 and onwards -some marks have been mooved to other silversmiths because more items have been found - and they relate to other period.
This is not an exact science - but evaluation, and estimating.
