This type of beaker is called a Hanseatic beaker
hanseaterbeger in Norwegian and its form is derived from beakers used in the hanseatic towns in northern Germany. The town Bergen was a member of the Hanseatic league.

The goldsmiths in the town provided the market of wealthy peasants with this traditional beaker until the mid 19th century. It was a status object and an investment, a sort of show-off piece to boast about at the parties. It is also called
raslebeger or rattle beaker, because of the rattling sound it makes, when drinking.
