Silver-plate Glass-holder.Can anyone identify the Hallmark?

Post by sakiskv427 »

It’s a (probably) silver-plate Glass-holder, with no familiar Hallmark.

Could someone help me with origin, date .

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Believe that is the mark of Erhardt & Söhne, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. This is the first silverplate item I've seen with the mark, usually made brassware inlaid with wood or decorated in enamel.

Hi tom, thanks a lot for the information , I realy didn’t know where to start looking. The thing is that apart from that hallmark there is nothing else , neither date mark nore silvermark. I looked for Erhardt & Söhne on the internet but couldn’t find a thing, have you got any more infermation? I’ll post one more detail of the pice, I really think it’s a fine work… Image

Hi,
Try this search:
"Erhardt & Söhne" auktion
You will get many returns.
The only sourcebook that I know of that covers the firm is the Brohan Museum catalog "Metallkunst", but my copy was lost years ago. In all honesty, I am starting to doubt my attribution of the mark. If memory serves, it is a crowned standing lion with the letter "E" to the side or below.
I hope someone else will check it and verify or refute.

Regards, Tom

Hello, that is the mark of Erhard und Söhne. They actually made silverplated (and some silver) articles. Erhard still exists (check Wikipedia), but they don't make stuff like that anymore. Best wishes, Bahner

Hey Bahner…. Thanks a lot for the information. Before I posted here I had no idea of its origin, still I can’t find any information about Erhard (not even in Wikipedia…) but it’s a step forward. Thanks again.
