Paul Revere Silver touchmarks?? Help please

Post by HC »

I have looked for a long time for a nice authentic Paul Revere spoon. I have been offered one measuring 5 1/8" with the touchmark PR in block lettering. It is a bery nice looking piece. Are there many fakes out there? Who would be the leading expert to help authenticate such a piece? Any warnings, etc? My thanks - HC

There are piles of forgeries; Revere heads the top ten list of spurious marks. That said, authentic pieces are not that scarce and can be had if one doesn't mind the inflated prices his pieces bring. Given the money, verification is mandatory; find a certified silver appraiser or contact a major museum (both will need to actually see and hold the piece -- pictures mean nothing in this case).
