fruit knife maker THV? ... and date of curly e?

Post by bookworm »

Sorry, I do seem to be taking up a lot of topic space ... but I have nearly finished cataloguing my bookmarks/fruit knives and I think this is my last query! This sliding blade silver fruit knife made in Birmingham has a makers mark which I think is THV and a fairly curly e date mark which is probably 1904 but to my inexperienced eyes could be 1879. The handle has a clearer date mark and lion, but no makers mark.

Sponsor appears to be Thomas Henry Vale. From what appears on my screen, the year mark next to the sponsors mark looks like the 1902 c while the other year mark is an 1904 e. I expect they are both e[/i]

Thanks very much Larkfield; I agree one photo looks a bit like a c, but it is more clearly an e in real life! Nice to know the maker.
