This sterling silver device is hallmarked for Asprey of London, 1946.
The arm is about 3 inches ( 7.62 cm.) long.

What was it used for ?

Well done Miles.

It's for hardcover books. Clip slips over the book board and the arm holds down the pages ( patent number 257529 ).
