Danish spoon?

Post by paulh »

This spoon looks Danish and the marks also bears a resemblance to the Copenhagen mark. However, it is not the usual three tower mark, but a similar marks with the shield being divided vertically. The right side having what looks like half the Copenhagen towers and the left half appears to be two horses running to the left.

Any ideas?

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Not absolutely sure, but I think it is Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, currently just on the Danish border. In times past, part of the Danish Kingdom.
we have a terrible example of the Flensburg mark here ->

Flensburg is correct. The maker "FS" is Ferdinand Heinrich Sauermann, born 1824, citizen 19 Aug 1854. No record of his death.
