Hi - can anyone help identify this small cup. Possibly Scandinavian or Baltic. I saw a similar one recently marked as Russian!. Maybe it is a fake that some one is making. Makers mark is AS struck 3 times, although one mark is different style to the others. Any ideas Hose?
Oh yes and sorry to be the one to tell.
Russian vodka-cup with 6-edged top is the inspiration.
They excist also as sugar and cream.
The mark is not same AS in all 3 marks one is almost APS where A&P are both using part of the first letter.
Maker is danish all right around 1900 jacob Magnus Aage Steffensen 1876 to 1929. Widow continues business 7 years after husband died. he is a goldsmith and in 1905 he establish Sølvkælderen (silver cellar)
His marks are MAS IAS IMS AS or A Steffensen. At an early period he specialises in silver that look older. And he marks the items vith different mark looking like older marks.
He imitates all the various styles quality sometimes good sometimes not.
His knowledge of stile is not that good therefor his works is difficult to place in time - confusing for collectors of old silver. However his marks are dokumented in Bøje bd 3 - under fake marks.
Sorry but he is well documented.
